Congratulations

The Swiss Governement and the General Consulate of Switzerland in New York choose Mrs. Christine Pfister as the Honorary Consul in Philadelphia.

We congratulate our member Christine to her new assignment and welcome her as our new representative.

Christine Pfister takes the place of retiring Honorary Consul Franz Portmann who served the Swiss community for many years.

We thank Franz Portmann for all his support and wish Christine Pfister great success in her new position.

Our society mourns the passing of our Honorary member Mr. William (Bill) MacNeill, who died on May 2, 2011. Bill and his wife Simone became Honorary members during the First of August celebration in 2008.

The members of the society extend deepest sympathy to Mrs. Simone MacNeill.

 Our society mourns the passing of longtime member Mr. Hans Spring, who died on December 15, 2010 at Chandler Hall in Newtown.

Hans and his wife Marguerite joined the NHS in 1960. Hans served as auditor from 1979 - 1983 and again from 1990 - 1997.

The members of the society extend deepest sympathy to Mrs. Marguerite Spring and her family.

Sad News

Our society mourns the passing of longtime member Mr. Johann Buerkli, who was a resident of Philadelphia.

He joined the NHS in 1966 and served as a board member as well as an auditor for a total of 23 years. Mr. Buerkli passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2011.

The members of this society extend deepest sympathy to Mrs. Isolde Buerkli and her family.

Sad News

My dear Friends,

with enormous sadness I like to inform you, that my dear husband Stan suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage on Friday, January 21, 2011.

Excellent neurological surgeons tried everything to safe his live at Albert Einstein Hospital.

Surrounded by his loving family, Mr. Stanton Pressman passed on peacefully on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 without ever regaining his consciousness.

A memorial service date will be announce later and his burial will be private.

I will forever miss him,

Congratulations

The New Helvetic Society elected a new President in Veronique Sturzenegger. She replaces Monica Rieder, who served in that position for the last 8 years.

We all thank Monica for her great success in leading the NHS and welcome Veronique as our new leader.

The General Assembly also elected Elisabeth Ott as a new board member. She replaces Emmy Hofmann, who served as our recording secretary during the last 9 years.

The General Assembly also elected Kimberly Portmann. She will replace our Auditor Jeannine Maddox, who decided to return with her family back to Switzerland.

We wish all outgoing board members only the best in the future and look forward to see our new board members during upcoming events.

Sad News 

Our society mourns the passing of longtime member Mrs. Betty M. Doudin, (nee McVey), of Cranford and formerly of Hainesport NJ.

Betty passed away on January 19, 2010, at Cranford Hall Nursing Home. She was 79.

Betty was the beloved wife of Edmond C. Doudin (deceased) and loving mother of Colette G. Doudin of Cranford and Conrad E. Doudin of Augusta Kan.

The NHS extends deepest sympathy to the Doudin family and our members will remember Betty.

Our society mourns the passing of Dr. Edward K. Ott.

Ed joined the society in 1977 and will be remembered as the "pipe-smoking" gentleman at our First of August parties. Dr. Ott died on September 28, 2009 at age 85 and was laid to rest in Switzerland.

The NHS extends deepest sympathy to the Ott family.

Our society mourns the passing of longtime member Mrs. Maria Beyer of Hockessin, DE.

Maria passed away at home on June 27, 2009, in her 73rd year, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She is survived by her loving husband, Werner Beyer and her 4 children and 6 grandchildren.

Her husband remembers her as the one true love in his live, whith whom he was fortunate enough to share 50 years of marriage. Her children and grand-children remember her as a wonderfully loving, patient, generous and caring mother and grandmother.
